Aihi plans to improve roads
By BURI GABI

KAIRUKU Hiri Member Paru Aihi has raised concerns over two contractors engaged in the sealing of the Hiritano Highway in Central province for not completing the work which they were contracted to.

Mr Aihi said the 4.5km stretch of road from Agevairu to Bioto was not sealed by the contractors but all funds allocated for the road were used up on the major part of the contract from Kuriva to Doa station.
The Kairuku Hiri Member highlighted that the 4.5km stretch of the road has now deteriorated because it was not sealed when the two contractors engaged were sealing other end of the highway starting from Kuriva to Doa station in 2004-2005.

The state of the road has now deteriorated and it will cost the National Government and donor partners another massive amounts of money which will exceed the initial figure.

The Kairuku Hiri member also appealed to the contractors that will be engaged in the road construction projects in his electorate to thoroughly map out the construction costs so that the projects will be completed adequately.

The road sealing of 30kmilometres of the highway stretching from Bioto to Bereina station will be funded by PNG Sustainable Development and Australia Government through AusAid funding according to Mr Aihi.
Mr Aihi stressed that currently he is not aware of how much will be spent on the road sealing project at this stretch of the highway.
Most parts of the Hiritano High Way have been neglected by previous leaders and the condition of the road have deteriorated.

It has badly affected the people from Goilala, Kairuku, Mekeo in the Central Province and parts of Gulf Province to sell their fresh garden produce in Port Moresby.

The new Kairuku Hiri member is now taking a major drive to fix all the roads in his electorate with the assistance of the National Government and other donor partners.
