Vudal has an industrial relations officer
By Vudal reporter

STAFF members of the University of Vudal now have an avenue to raise work related concerns and issues with the university administration.

The university's senior management made this possible through the creation of a new position - the position of industrial relations officer.

This position has been filled by Ronald Roboam who was previously chief security officer of the university's security services section.

Mr Roboam said the position was important as it would:

* foster better relations and understanding between staff, students and the university administration;
* assist the administration to come up with better decisions for its staff and students.
* help facilitate disputes;
* stop unnecessary court cases between the employee and employer; and
* assist with protocol arrangements.
Mr Roboam graduated from Bomana Police College in 1973 and resigned in 1975. He was employed by Habours Board security and worked at ports in Rabaul, Port Moresby and Lae before taking up a position as branch manager with Golden Rooster in 1998.
In 2003, he joined the University as chief security officer and remained in this capacity until early this year when the new position was created.
With his experience and knowledge, Mr Roboam is confident that he will be able to carry out his new responsibilities.

"I plan to meet with staff members and brief them on their areas of responsibility that will benefit both them and their employer (University).
Staff must also know the correct procedures of raising their grievances instead of taking short cuts," he said.
Mr Roboam has also been a layman pastor for more than 20 years.

Meanwhile, the security command was formally handed over to Stanly Laknga last week. Mr Laknga who is now acting chief security officer, was previously chief investigator.
