Domil teaches PNG in self sufficiency

SOME 30 plus delegates attending two important meetings in Mt Hagen this week descended on Domil community of 1, 300 in the Western Highlands province.

The field trip was taken on Friday by delegates attending the Public Sector Reform Advisory Group (PSRAG) and the Service Improvement Program (SIP).

Leading the delegation were Brown Bai Chairman of PSRAG, his deputy Sir Barry Holloway and other leading reformists, Simon Kenehe (Chairman for Commission of Higher Education), Dr Vele Ila'ava (Team leader for Task Force for National Strategic Plan) and Joseph Sukwianomb (Program Coordinator, PSRMU).

The delegation was received by Chairman of the Domil Integrated Community Health and Development Association, John Waim and Director Bernard Gunn.

They were warmly received and entertained by a colouful traditional singsing group and inspected a guard of honor accorded mounted by the Domil Community Policing officers. Mr Bai applauded the tangible demonstration of a people committed to transforming their lives through innovations and self sacrifices.
He noted the great strides and affirmative action in community empowerment headed by Mr Waim and Mr Gunn.

Mr Bai further asked PSRMU to take on board lessons of Domil and incorporate these lessons into the service delivery strategies to support the Government' 40-year National Strategic Plan (NSP).
He thanked the community for the warm reception and urged them to maintain the high level of enthusiasm demonstrated over the last 14 years in the village based reforms.
He further commended the people of North Waghi for their unfailing endeavour to try new ideas.
Sir Barry also highly commended the Domil community for setting a pace in innovative Governance and self sustaining project initiatives.

As the Chairman of the Task Force for the Government's Administrative and Political reform, Sir Barry will recommend for direct funding to Local Level Governments (LLGs) and Wards.

Other members of the PSRAG include Napoleon Liosi, Dr Misty Baloiloi and member Ms Jullie Soso.
