MAIRO No.2, a group of women from Gulf province traveled to Port Moresby to show their appreciation to two of their sons who successfully wrote their proposal for a fishing project.

The group is from the rural Keakea village in Ihu district.
They arrived in Port Moresby on Feb 16 with two 10kilos of sago and two 10kilos of betel nut bags as token of appreciation for Henni H Ikupu from the British Graduate Society (PNG), who is also the vice (male) president and community coordinator and Wilson Kavanamur (manager) loans support Westpac Bank PNG Limited.

The two men, though not well known to the bulk of the local population, have a big heart for the country and its people and their assistance is an expression of this standing.

They try their best to work hard in their own capacity to make things happen to help others and that's what they did for the Keakea villagers.

The group was among 189 applicants for funds from National Fishing Authority for fishing projects. Only 58 applications had met the criteria and requirements and Mairo No.2 was one of those selected through a proposal written and submitted by Henni Ikupu.

The group received a funding of K9,896 in materials and equipment consisting of a generator set, associated fishing and prawn nets, deep freezer, electrical accessories and others.

The National Fisheries Authority Project Development Fund helps and empowers rural and local fishermen with equipment and gear for income generating activities to improve and sustaining their livelihood.
