Gulf administrator remains suspended
By ABBIE COLLACO

SUSPENDED Gulf Provincial Administrator Miai Larekake remains suspended, according to Governor Havila Kavo.

Mr Kavo made the statement amid claims from certain quarters that Mr Larelake had resumed the post as administrator, following the lapsing of the acting administrator's period of appointment by the National Executive Council.

Governor Kavo reiterated that Mr Larelake was suspended to allow the Public Service Commission to conduct a thorough investigation into the 20 allegations of misconduct, misuse and mismanagement of public funds.

He said in the first instance it is incumbent upon the Public Service Commission to complete such an investigation and provide a report to the NEC as per NEC Decision No.246/08

Kavo said the NEC is the only authority to suspend and uplift suspensions and Mr Larelake remains suspended even if Simon Peter's acting appointment has lapsed on Feb 20, 2009.

The Gulf Provincial Executive Council in its deliberation has endorsed to recommend to the NEC to extend Mr Peter's term of office as acting administration.

Meanwhile, Mr Larelake confirmed to Sunday Chronicle that he has resumed duties "in accordance with the Public Management Act Section 53 Subsection 4".

He contends that as the substantive position holder, he has the legal right to resume office as both the term of suspension and the subsequent acting appointment have lapsed.

Since his suspension lapsed on Feb 20, Mr Larelake has written to the Secretary for the Department of Personnel Management and is expecting a response to his letter this week.
