MP delivers AIDS message to the village level

Bringing the HIV and AIDS message across to the people at the rural areas is the way to go to help minimize the disease from wiping out the country's population.

Parliamentary committee chairman on HIV AIDS and Member for Anglimp South Waghi Jamie Graham is taking the first step to bring down message to his people in the electorate.

Mr Graham said he has allocated K400,000 out from his District Services Improvement Program to build five resource centers in five wards in the district.

The resource centers will be used by ward AIDS committees to discuss and carry out awareness messages to the people. Mr Graham pointed out that it is very important to target rural populations at this time when the disease is increasing at an alarming rate.

The Anglimp South Waghi member also stressed that two vehicles were bought from DSIP funds to help transport equipments and social workers to respective wards in the electorate to educate the people on effects of HIV AIDS and behavioral change.

Mr Graham he has already engaged a company which will be building the resource centers in his electorate.

Mr Graham also highlighted that other eighty wards will have their resource centers built under the same program which through which the member himself is taking the campaign down to the people at the grassroots level.

Despite many campaigns and much information being disseminated to the people HIV AIDS happens to be a major problem still in Papua New Guinea.

The member for Almglimp South Waghi also revealed that National AIDS Council is now looking at new strategies to combat the disease at all levels.
